Warner Bros has employed Shane Black to immediate a live action variation of the Japanesemanga sequence Death Note. Shane Black will manage a program that is being written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.
“Right now I’ve got this thing at Warner Bros. called Death Note that I like a lot. It’s a Japanese Manga that’s very tense and really cool. And also something at Sony I’m really excited about.” -Shane Black
Shane Black was initially declared to helm the variation this year. Why keep the venture in existence after so long?
“It’s my favorite manga. I was just struck by its unique and brilliant sensibility,” Black told Deadline back in 2011.
Black stated somewhere else:
“What we want to do is take it back to that manga, and make it closer to what is, so complex and truthful about the spirituality of the story, versus taking the concept and trying to copy it as an American thriller.”
